Step-by-step to make Crochet Santa

This is a mini yarn Santa ornament (very popular handmade Christmas craft). Here’s a step-by-step tutorial to make it 👇🎅

🧰 MATERIALS (IMPORTANT DETAILS)

Yarn

• White yarn → medium thickness (for beard)
• Red yarn → same thickness (for hat)

👉 Acrylic yarn works best (cheap, neat, easy to cut)

Other

• Cardboard (from box or notebook)
• Scissors (sharp = clean beard)
• Hot glue gun (best) or strong glue
• 2 small googly eyes (5–6 mm)
• Small red pom-pom OR red bead (nose)
• Small yellow felt/star (optional)
• Thread or thin yarn (for hanging)

📐 SIZE GUIDE (VERY IMPORTANT)

For mini Santas like the photo:

• Cardboard width: 5 cm
• Cardboard height: 7–8 cm

You can change size later, but follow this first.

✂️ STEP 1: MAKE THE WHITE BEARD (MOST IMPORTANT PART)

1. Cut cardboard 5 cm wide × 7 cm tall
2. Hold white yarn and wrap it horizontally
3. Wrap 25–30 times
   • More wraps = thicker beard
4. Carefully slide yarn off cardboard
5. Cut a 10 cm piece of white yarn
6. Tie it very tightly at ONE end
   • This tied end = top of beard
7. Cut the opposite looped end
8. Spread yarn flat
9. Trim bottom into a rounded beard shape
   • Like a half-circle
   • Do NOT cut too much

✅ Result: fluffy white tassel beard

🎩 STEP 2: MAKE THE RED HAT

1. Use the same cardboard
2. Wrap red yarn 18–22 times
3. Slide off carefully
4. Place red yarn bundle directly on top of beard knot
5. Tie tightly with red yarn
   • This tie = hat brim
6. Pull red yarn upwards
7. Tie again 2 cm from top
8. Cut top loops → creates pom-pom
9. Trim pom-pom round

🎄 Now it already looks like Santa!

👀 STEP 3: FACE DETAILS (POSITION IS KEY)

Eyes

1. Place eyes just under the red hat
2. Space them evenly
3. Glue carefully (small amount!)

Nose

1. Glue red pom-pom between eyes
2. Nose should slightly cover beard
3. Press 5–10 seconds

👉 If no pom-pom: roll yarn into tiny ball

⭐ STEP 4: DECORATION (OPTIONAL)

• Glue small yellow star on hat
• You can also add:
  • Button
  • Bead
  • Felt heart

🪢 STEP 5: HANGING LOOP

1. Cut 10–12 cm thread
2. Fold in half
3. Glue ends to back of hat
4. Let dry completely

✂️ STEP 6: FINAL TRIMMING

• Comb beard gently with fingers
• Trim uneven yarn
• Make beard round and full

• ❌ Loose knots → Santa falls apart
