Step-by-step to make Crochet Ring

Here is how to make this crochet Christmas wreath ornament

FINISHED SIZE

  • About 6–7 cm (2.5 inches) diameter

MATERIALS (IMPORTANT)

  • Yarn: Red + Green + White (medium or bulky yarn is best)
  • Crochet hook: 4.0–5.0 mm
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Optional: small plastic or metal ring (keyring size)

PART 1: MAKE THE BASE RING

Option 1 (NO RING – yarn only)

  1. Make a slip knot
  2. Chain 22 stitches
  3. Insert hook into the first chain
  4. Slip stitch to form a circle

👉 This circle is your wreath base

Option 2 (WITH RING – easier & stronger)

  1. Hold the small ring
  2. Insert hook through ring
  3. Pull up green yarn
  4. Chain 1

👉 This makes a solid wreath shape

PART 2: COVER THE RING WITH CROCHET

  1. Use green yarn
  2. Single crochet (sc) all around the ring
    • Insert hook → yarn over → pull through → yarn over → pull through 2 loops
  3. Push stitches close together
  4. Continue until the ring is completely covered
  5. Slip stitch to join
  6. Fasten off and cut yarn

💡 Tip: Tight stitches = neat wreath

PART 3: MAKE THE TWISTED ROPE (MAIN DESIGN)

Step 1: Cut Yarn

  • Cut 3 long strands, about 80–100 cm each
    • 1 red
    • 1 green
    • 1 white

Step 2: Twist the Yarn

  1. Hold all 3 strands together
  2. Twist them tightly in one direction (clockwise)
  3. Keep twisting until the yarn wants to curl

Step 3: Fold to Lock the Twist

  1. Fold the twisted yarn in half
  2. Let it twist back on itself naturally
  3. Now you have a strong spiral rope

👉 This creates the candy-cane look

PART 4: ATTACH ROPE TO THE WREATH

  1. Place rope on the wreath base
  2. Wrap it around the ring one coil at a time
  3. Push each wrap close to the previous one
  4. Continue until the ring is fully covered
  5. Sew or tie the rope ends at the back
  6. Secure tightly and hide yarn ends

💡 Tip: Keep the twist even for a clean look

PART 5: MAKE THE CROCHET BOW 🎀

Step 1: Make Bow Loops

  1. Use red yarn
  2. Chain 12
  3. Slip stitch into first chain
  4. Chain 1, single crochet 12 stitches
  5. Fasten off

Step 2: Shape the Bow

  1. Fold the strip in half
  2. Wrap yarn tightly around the center 5–6 times
  3. Tie securely at the back

Step 3: Attach the Bow

  1. Sew the bow onto the top of the wreath
  2. Make sure it is centered

PART 6: HANGING LOOP (OPTIONAL)

  1. Attach yarn at the back
  2. Chain 10
  3. Slip stitch to same spot
  4. Fasten off

FINAL CHECK
